Like many other small businesses, I benefit from word of mouth referrals. If someone is happy with their service and session, they tell other people, which I warmly appreciate. Likewise, if I have a stellar experience with a business, or think others could benefit from a product, I like to share. Until Monday, I was indifferent about pet poison phone services. One experience changed everything, and you should know about it!
As an after hours emergency, a long time client brought in a large dog that had consumed a sizeable quantity of a body-building supplement. She called Pet Poison Helpline prior to arriving, and received a case number. The information provided by PPH was absolutely critical in helping her dog, as well as helping our doctor expedite care.
Using her case number, I called into PPH for further information. The doctor who I spoke with was absolutely amazing in her delivery of this life-saving information. She stated that because this product was a proprietary supplement, it could be difficult to ascertain what a toxic level was. We knew that the first ingredient was Xylitol, which can cause low blood sugar, and liver issues. But how much of this specific product was toxic? The veterinarian I spoke with continued to investigate, calling the product manufacturer, until she received the critical information. Within five minutes of my call with her, I had a faxed, full summary of our conversation. This was ideal to send with our client to the nearest emergency clinic for more advanced care.
In my opinion, Pet Poison Helpline was a terrific value. For 49$, a pet owner receives critical information regarding their pet's poisoning, and a case number. There are unlimited follow-ups, and veterinarians can call with the case number to speak to PPH staff veterinarians. The list of professionals that PPH employs is impressive, and can be heard on the initial call recording.
Please keep their number handy because you never know when you'll need it. By the way, I discovered that they also have a pet poison app, and an excellent website. You can check it out here: http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/
